Friday Favorite Things!

Hi, Stampin' Friends! I am off playing at a crop all day today, so this is gonna be quick! Today I'm sharing one of my favorite projects, even if it is rather less embellished than my usual hoopla. I made this awesome prize wheel from an IKEA lazy susan that runs about $8 after seeing one made by the fabulous Christine Tavernier. I have the same exact lazy susan in my Stamp Pad with glass jars of buttons on top of it. To make the spinner I pried the rubber gasket off the back. Then I painted the lazy susan with silver spray paint, then covered it with our Chalkboard self adhesive paper. Once I had the chalkboard paper lined up I covered the seams with Red Shimmer tape and filled in the groove on the spinning part with multiple layers of Red Glitter Glitz. There is a row of black sequin tape around the outside of the spinner from the new Black mini Medley. It's HEAVY, so I got this cast iron cookbook stand at Target to hold it up for convention....'cause I always pack something cast iron in my suitcase to fly across the country to Florida. Don't you?

I used lots of the chipboard arrows from the ProPlayer Assortment to create my prize arrow. The prizes get written around the outer edges in plain old chalk. When you spin the arrow points to the winning choice. This is a great project for parties and craft fair prizes...but it's also great for the kiddos at home. When you write chores or tasks around the outer edges and they have to spin to see what to do, it seems to feel like winning to my boys. Woo hoo - I got vacuum! Since I pay them with pom poms from our management system...I win! Everytime! And that's one of my favorite things for sure!

Friday Favorite Things MMC

Happy Friday, Stampin' Friends! It's time for Friday Favorite Things, and this week I'm sharing the layouts for one of my favorite things every month, my Monthly Memories Scrapbooking club. 

I am always excited to see my Stampin' Ladies on the first Friday of each month. This evening we are getting our beach on with these six pages. The first two layouts are inspired by the fabulous Tamytha Jenkins from Paper Heartist. If you haven't been out to her blog, go now - you're in for a treat!

 I usually like to create my own for club, but when I saw Tamytha's layouts I knew I was gonna have to make those my own! I added this Wooden Mini Medley to our materials, and we coated a lot of those pieces with Stardust glitter glitz. 

The last layout is (sort of) the one designed by CTMH for the WOTG brochure. I had Artbooking, so I made a few changes, adding the adorable title and sunburst. I've been so busy with cConvention prep and then catching up at home from Convention that we haven't yet been to the beach at all this summer. Now that I need to fill these pages that I'm home again and we've got a month of summer vacation left it's time to get my littles to the beach. Ahem.

Friday Favorite Things

Welcome back to another week of Friday Favorite Things. Congrats to last weeks winner, Kelly J! This week I'm sharing a new card that I crafted using the Cardabilities Sketch #79. Today's project features the August SOTM, "A Chocolate Affair", which is awesome since chocolate is certainly one of my Favorite Things! I used my favorite new paper packet (Babycakes) and one of my favorite new accessories, the new Slate Twist Ties. I'm linking this card (that I made for Karen Morris's swap) to the Addicted to CAS Glitter Challenge and the Heart 2 Heart Ice Cream Challenge. Multi-tasking is sweet!

I paper pieced the sundae using Whisper Ink rolled in Slate for the initial stamping. Then I stamped the image again using the Bamboo and Chocolate pigment ink spots. I trimmed out my "vanilla" ice cream and the chocolate sauce, and layered each onto the gray base image. I patted on Stardust glitter glitz with my finger and topped off my sundae with a red sparkle cherry.

I accented my focal point with a Seam binding bow topped with a baker's twine bow and some curliques made from the twist ties. I like to roll those up using my quilling tool. I hand trimmed a heart from small pieces of the new Bronze shimmer tape to top off my sweet side bow confection.

Friday Favorite Things You Rule!

I'm back with a new card and a new Friday Favorite Things giveaway! Today's card was inspired by the MUSE Challenge card for this week. As soon as I saw it I kept thinking about the canvas Ruler StickEase from the Claire scrapbooking kit I've been working on all week (patience, pics are coming this weekend!). I'm not saying that knowing I wanted to use that ruler sticker for a card kept me from using it on the pages...but how nice that it worked out I didn't need it for my pages, right? Just sayin'...

I didn't use the MUSE card colors, because that Claire kit and canvas ruler I've been contemplating were just a perfect match for the Play Date Cafe's To the {MOM} in your life challenge too. So I made my punny little quick card with the Play Date colors, which happen to be the Claire colors I already had all over my tabletop! I stamped my frame with Sorbet Ink, and dressed up the Crown StickEase with some glitter glitz.  I'm linking this up to the Heart 2 Heart Teacher Appreciation Challenge too, as this one's going to school with my little guy in the morning.

Top five cards from 2012

Hi, ladies! I'm busy stamping away on new product (and I'll share that later), but I wanted to gather up a few of my favorite cards from last year to share with you one last time. Boy this was hard - I made a LOT of cards last year! I linked each card to the original post, just in case you need more details...

#5 is this 3-D flower card done with just a touch of red. I made a ton of variations of this flower this year - so simple and but super pretty.

#4 is this fresh little bike card...I wish I had a glitter bike to ride like this! Again with the stitching - can you feel the little curly-Qs of {love} flowing off the back of this bike?

#3 is this SMILE card I whipped up using the new Burlap ribbon and lots of rolling (my favorite inking technique!). Those fabulous rhinestone brads are one of my favorite things for sure!

#2 is this CAS holiday card...clean and simple are not my strong suits, but I whipped this card out in minutes and wouldn't change a thing!

And my favorite card from 2012 is probably this one - the crisp black and white, stitched panels, glittery dragonfly wings...I made this right after we got those brads I love so much! It breaks my heart that they are retiring at the end of this month - I'd better get some more before they are gone!

A bonus project - probably my favorite layout I made last year. I say probably, because how do you pick for sure, but I loved these pics of my boys so much, this layout helped me realize the power of the photo collage in a layout! Plus I loved this Dotty paper packet to pieces...

Friday Favorite Things Winner!

Good morning, Stampin' Friends! Congratulations to the winner of this week's giveaway for a free sheet of Jams, the fabulous Starr N.! Above you can see my current holiday Jams in Holiday Lights and Red Polka Dot...and a pudgy little 6 year old hand from my helper, Gabe, who is fascinated by Jamberry and often wears just one on a finger for the weekend at home when his friends can't see...good thing he doesn't read my blog! 

I hope to have a new art post for you soon - I'm working on the finishing touches for a new workshop kit! In the meantime though, Jamberry has announced they are going to open the vault for a new sale like the one we all loved on Cyber Monday! Super low prices and adorable retired patterns that went away before I even knew that Jamberry existed...woo hoo!

I found this graphic depicting the retiring shields...I'll be stalking me some Small Hearts and Grey/Orange Chevrons. If you did the Cyber Monday Sale you know how much fun it's going to be! Jamberry puts up one design at a time in a limited number until it sells out, then post another until it sells out. Some of them went so fast you didn't have time to refresh your screen...and others not so much. The shipping on the special sale is free(!) which is great because you want to check out for each shield as fill your cart (or it'll disappear - it's not yours until you've checked out). If you want to play along, you might want to go out and create your Jamberry account online before the sale. You can do that without making a purchase so that checking out during the sale will go more smoothly!

December has not been a great month personally for us with our steady stream of health setbacks, (2!) car accidents, the gluten disaster and subsequent loss of our beloved preschool co-op...but this week everyone is healthy again (phew!), Christmas is almost here with family coming to stay (yea!), a new CTMH catalog shipment (yippee!), and now a Jamberry super sale (woo hoo!). Life is good!

My heart is lighter, my fingertips are cute, and there is glitter all over my current project that I cannot wait to share with you. Peace, Love, and Joy, Stampin' Friends...

Stamp Cards in a Hurry!

So the good news is that my shoulder finally feels like I'm healing from my (possible) disc herniation flare up. Woo hoo! The bad news is that I only started feeling more like my old self this morning. So I have been a stamping slacker lately...right up to the last minute prep I did for my team meeting on Monday... At 7 p.m. ... which I started at, oh, say 6 p.m. And I owed my fabulous team not only a meeting project, but a swap card. Can you say "Ack!"

I think I did alright though, for someone who isn't exactly known for whipping out simple but adorable cards in a timely fashion. CAS is not my go-to strength, if you know what I mean! This adorable Christmas card was my swap card. I used the new Merry and Bright stamp set plus the December SOTM, along with that awesome Retro Sketches sketch for this week. I knew when I saw it that sketch was gonna be a fav for me! How much do you love that BLING gemstone? 

I'm linking this card to the Heart 2 Heart Christmas Project challenge and the fabulous Paper Issues Stamp On It challenge. I love that it's time for Christmas cards again!

 Of course, I owed them a November SOTM hands-on project too! I had seen this fabulous color/picture inspiration challenge on Jay Gee's Nook - and the ombre on that ruffled curtain just sang to me! So I grabbed a huge assortment of numbers from the Nov. SOTM (making your own custom stamps is a big reason I LOVE acrylic stamps!) and stamped them down the card front to simulate the ombre effect. 

I folded up a quick Banner sentiment that I cut using my Cricut Art Philosophy and Artiste cartridges, and let it flow over the edge as all the cool kids are doing lately. Inside it says "Make it Count!" 

I'm also linking this to the Heart 2 Heart Rolling Challenge, since I used the rolling technique in a side to side motion to blend the ombre through the center of the background.

Friday Favorite Things!

Welcome back to Friday Favorite Things! I did not craft this card for this weekend's birthday parties, but for a Retro Sketches challenge that my shoulder issue eclipsed a while back. We have another birthday party this weekend, and that reminded me that I did have a project banked to share with y'all! 

I love this Superhero set for little boy parties. And while all the colors are not yet available, I'm still loving our new Alcohol Markers. I did not use a paper packet on this project, instead stamping my own background paper on one of our 40 shades of coordinating CS. 

This weekend though, I'm getting down to brass tacks planning out my MHS Swap card. I'm planning to mix and match some paper packets - there are so many cute new patterns! Alcohol Marker Blending & the next giveaway!

I am off to Bend this weekend, and here's the swap card I did for my upline's fab team meeting. I used yet another completely adorable sketch from Freshly Made Sketches - I love their style! I also chose my colors from the new Play Date Cafe Color Challenge, so for me that's Autumn Terracotta, Honey, and my new favorite neutral, Slate. 

I used my It's Your Day National Stamping Month special set and my shiny new CTMH alcohol markers to add the stripes to my beloved Shimmer Tape. I stamped the tape with the bold strip image using a light pigment ink to mark the stripes, then colored it with my Honey (bottom) and Autumn Terracotta (upper stripes) markers. You can see that the top stripe is darker, and for that I just colored the striped three times instead of once to layer on the additional color. How fun is that?

The main sentiment image is from one of the Cricut Artiste coordinating sets. I inked it in Slate ink, then stamped it onto the Dotty background image from It's Your Day to add the texture before stamping it onto White Daisy CS. Of course, I couldn't resist adding that little giggly [Tee-Hee] to my Hello bubble. [Tee-Hee]

I used some tips from this fab You Tube video by Aimee Noel  when shading my butterflies for this project. If you are new to Alcohol Markers, watch the video. I learned that we need to shake the markers before coloring! I added three or so layers of color to each butterfly, using both Autumn Terracotta Markers and the Honey Marker to shade them. Each time I added color I used the lightest color as a blending pen to smooth the color across the image. When I was happy with the shading, I stamped over the top with the scripty corner image from the Scroll WOTG using Sunset Pigment Ink. I used the Autumn terracotta Marker to color in my plain sparkles as well, changing them to a soft coordinating orange glow!

And since I'll be in Bend this weekend, I probably won't be blogging much, so I thought I'd better announce the next Friday Favorite Things giveaway today! I'll be giving away a brand new C1511 Love Blooms Stamp set for one lucky Stamping Friend next Friday.

Today my Favorite Thing is the National Stamping Month It's Your Day Stamp Set!  I can't put it down. I want to add those bold stripes and polka dots to everything I'm stamping lately. And it's only $5 - that's crazy! I think one of my favorite images is a silly little sentiment that reads [TEE-HEE]. Just typing it here makes me giggle - who says Tee Hee out loud? It's like a fresher LOL, which if you know me on FB I use waaaaay to much, almost as much as I say "Dude!" in real life. You can take the girl out of California... 

But seriously, this set is sweet, sassy, and pure positivity! 

Did you check out the fab BLOG HOP we did with this enormous Double D set? I've got another card made with this set (and a super cool Shimmer tape alteration!!) but not photographed yet. For now I've got to buzz out to the farm for some green bean picking.  I just knew that y'all would want to know who won this week's Friday Favorite Thing!
