Day 28: 40 and Fabulous Layout

Today I'm supposed to be puttering about taking care of business, like gift wrapping for a birthday party, laundry, taxes...you know, just stuff. But now I'm working on those things around the #PICrop for Paper Issues. They are hosting a super fun online crop this weekend through their Facebook page. I've played Bingo (badly), worked on my scavenger hunt which I may nevereverever finish, and I've made this page so far, using the new sketch over at Scrap Much?
The best part of the crop is there's a ton of challenges, which are perfect for distracting me from what I should be doing getting my mojo going. Ahem. This was a selfie challenge, and I was all, "Oh! But I just did a selfie page. How many pages of my own selfie do I really need?" The answer to that might just be none...except that someday my kiddos might really appreciate pics of their mom that she actually likes, as opposed to me rushing about their parties like a madwoman or my elbow in the background. So, more power to the selfie pages.
Since my selfie was from Instagram, I dragged it over to PicMonkey and built it onto a 4x6 canvas to allow space for my journaling too. Like that green stripey washi? It's digital from Pic Monkey too. I mounted my freshly printed photo/journaling onto some Blossom paper (coming next month) and wrapped it above the scallop punched border with some...wait for it...1/4" washi tape! My scrap kit gals are now squealing with delight that I won't be making them cut 1/4" pieces anytime soon, Can you hear them? I mounted this over a floral spray I fussy cut from a PML card because I wanted a doily but I can't find the doilies I'm sure I bought and, well, flowers. That calendar card is also PML. You also spy some Smoothie Striped washi and a beautiful floral washi tape I bought some time ago from none other than Paper Issues. Seriously, could go broke over the cuteness they carry over there. Go now. No wait! First this, then go.
For my title I used a precious few of my remaining cork alpha stickers. There's not a lot left I can spell with these. Even less with the Pink felt stickers, lol. Those were, as some of you might remember, a very, very bright shade of pink. So I colored them with an alcohol marker to tone down the pink. I actually use the 'y' from that sticker set as a sponge to do the inking you see on this layout. I dab on color with a marker, then dab the swoopy all over to get my splatters. Then he goes back onto the liner until next time I need him. The & is a leftover from Hopscotch (expiring in just days!) and the fab star wood veneer came from Um Wow via the Paper Issues blog.
I cut apart a big, pretty frame from the Blossom StickEase to get my quote here, but I liked the flow of this better than having a big chunk of frame there. You can see the stamped (February SOTM) and pierced background I did on the glacier cardstock here. The base CS is sanded, but the upper layer is just stamped, then pierced using a stitch ruler.

Whew! Is it any wonder I only got one page done so far? I'm working on some more challenge stuff right now though, so I'm sure my taxes can wait another day. Right?  Your's can too - come crop!
